Title: Family Bible Page: MCDONOUGH, Martha Elmira (LaFever), Family Bible, The Holy Bible, (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, A.J. Holman Company, 1942), “Family Records, Births, Marriages, Deaths,” privately held by Valerie Butler, Baltimore, Maryland, 2003. Martha was a midwife and a pastor. The marriage and birth dates of David and Elmira (LaFever) McDonough as well as the birth and death dates of children and grandchildren are listed. Some sections appear to be written at one time while others were likely written later as the handwriting changes and gets very shaky. One page describes the bible as being presented to Martha Elmira McDonough by First Pentecostal Church of God. Vinita, Okla 12-25-64, so all dates would have been written on or after this date. There are also scattered instances of someone else’s writing which I believe to be my father’s, Darrell William Butler’s, as I inherited the bible from him. I also wrote his death date in it: “Darrell William Butler passed away 5/6/2003.” I mistakenly wrote my uncle’s name David first and then crossed it out. |

Title: Newspaper Items Page: MCDONOUGHs, newspaper article. "McDonoughs Hold Homecoming Sunday." Abt 1939? Provenance unknown. Newspaper clipping details a reunion at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alva MCDONOUGH of Vinita, OK. Research believes that the initial reference to "Mr. and Mrs. Alva McDonough" is referring to Alva William McDonough (1908-1987) and his first wife, Elvina Marie Nelson (1911-1949) because of the individuals present and their death dates as known to the researcher at this writing (Virginia George MCDONOUGH died in 1940, David McDonough died in 1944, Elvina Marie Nelson died in 1939, and Alva William is alive until 1987). Moreover, the article states the occasion for the homecoming was for "Mrs. McDonough's 61st birthday." Research believes Mrs. McDonough is referring to Mrs. Marth Elmira (LAFEVER) MCDONOUGH) in this instance. This would suggest the celebration took place in 1939. Research also believes the reunion took place in Vinita, OK (Vinita is mentioned) because that is where most of the family lived for an extended period. One discrepancy remains: There are two mentions of Mr. and Mrs. Alva MCDONOUGH which implies either: a) Alva Sr. and Alva Jr., or b) the references refer to a single couple, Mr. and Mrs. Alva MCDONOUGH. |
