Notes
a. Note:   1880 US Census: John’s parents were listed as being from Georgia. I did not put that info into FTM. Informant is unknown, but he wasn’t living with his family so the informant may not have known where he was born.
Re: 1940 U.S. census records for John F. BUTLER: Is this the same person as John T. BUTLER? The middle initials look similar in script. Enumerator could have accidentally drawn a line through the T. But… it says John was naturalized. Hmm.
Can obtain a copy of his death certificate with the information I have in media file "BUTLER John T-Arkansas Death Index 1942." See the file on my computer "BUTLER John T-Arkansas Death Index, 1914-1950.pdf" for instructions.
Rationale for John's birthplace: I believe John was born in Louisiana because he is listed on the 1870 U.S. Census as being from Louisiana. The marriage record for William BUTLER and Mahala Meyers is from 1862 in Claiborne, Louisiana. There are a lot of Butlers from Claiborne, Louisiana as well. And there is a headstone for William Butler in Louisiana (Find A Grave).
John's middle name is listed on the 1870 U.S. Census and in his mother, Mahala (MEARS) ANDERSON's will. In Mahala's will she says John is her oldest son, followed by Isaac Newton ANDERSON, her second son. This can help to define birth years.
