Notes
a. Note:   RESEARCH STANDARD APPLIED
Researched by Timothy J. Barron, updated April 18, 2021
John Long is my paternal third great uncle, which is via common ancestry with Andrew Long and Jane Nevan. John was initially identified in the 1875 census living with his parents. Mary was initially identified in the last will and testament of John’s mother.
Based on the application of recognized genealogical standards of proof, the descent of John Long is sufficiently established beyond any reasonable doubt. The basis for the descent of John begins with the census records, which show him living with his parents. This is followed by John being named in the last will and testament of his mother. The descent of Daniel is also demonstrated horizontally by his almshouse records, which names his sisters, Mary, Katherine, Margaret, and Cora. This has been subsequently supported with the additional interlocking records and documentation listed further below.
  1857 BIRTH OF JOHN LONG
Researched by Timothy J. Barron, updated April 14, 2021
John Long was born circa May 10, 1857 in Lockport, Niagara County, New York, USA. One of the almshouse records lists his date of birth as May 10, 1854. The year conflicts with the birth of his sister Margaret, as well was with the ages listed on both census records, so the year is assumed to be in error and the 1857 year is assumed to be correct.
