Note: RESEARCH STANDARD APPLIED Researched by Timothy J. Barron, updated December 6, 2020 Michalina Mazur is my maternal third great aunt, which is via common ancestry with Joseph Mazur and Magdalena Janasek. Michalina was initially identified in the obituary of her sister. Based on the application of recognized genealogical standards of proof, the descent and family structure of Michalina Mazur is sufficiently established beyond any reasonable doubt. The basis for the descent of Michalina begins with being named in the obituary of her sister Agnes, which identifies multiple surviving siblings. The death record identifies her parents as Joseph Mazur and Magdalena Janasek. The basis for the family structure begins with the census records. This is followed by the obituary of Peter. This has been subsequently supported with the additional interlocking records and documentation listed further below. 1855 BIRTH OF MICHALINA MAZUR Researched by Timothy J. Barron, updated November 28, 2020 Michalina Mazur was born on Saturday, October 10, 1855, in what would be present day Boruszyn, Lubuskie, Poland. 1857 BIRTH OF PETER BOCIAN Researched by Timothy J. Barron, updated December 6, 2020 Peter Bocian and Michalina immigrated to the USA from what would be present day Poland. They departed from the port of what would be present day Hamburg, Germany, on Saturday, April 3, 1880, on the steamship Hansa. The voyages in this era typically took about ten days, so they would have arrived in the port of New York, New York, USA, circa Tuesday, April 13, 1880. The passenger list records Peter and and Michalina in sequence, so it is probable that they were traveling together and engaged, as they were married in July. Their voyage was on the steamship Hansa. It should be noted there were multiple vessels with the Hansa name, and the following informational summary was edited from online sources. The steamship was originally named the Eptanisos. It was built under Lloyd's Register of Shipping Special Survey for the Anglo-Greek Steam Navigation & Trading Co. by Richardson, Duck & Co., Stockton-on-Tees, and was launched in February 1865. The steamship was 747 gross tons, 588 net tons, 198.8 feet in length, 29.1 feet in breadth, 16.7 feet in depth of hold, was of iron construction, and had screw propulsion. The Eptanisos was purchased on April 12, 1867 by the Hamburg firm of H. J. Perlbach & Co., and renamed to Hansa. G.H.M. Blanck was the captain from 1879 to 1883. The Hansa was sunk on April 7, 1892, after a collision off the Dutch coast.
