  The following appeared in the Chicago Daily Tribune newspaper in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, USA, on November 19, 1953, on page 27: "Grant Paroles to 27 Convicts of Cook County. Paroles were granted yesterday to 27 Cook county convicts as a result of hearings held earlier in the month, one of them giving freedom to Thomas McGowan, an inmate of the reformatory at Sheridan, and one freeing Walter Pernalski from the Joliet penitentiary. The others were inmates of the Stateville and Pontiac Institutions. McGowan served 3 years, 1 month and 4 days of a sentence of 1 to 5 years, and Pernalski served 16 years, 8 months and 5 days of a sentence of 1 year to live. In 1933 Pernalski escaped from the Brighton Park police station. Among others released was Andrew Klyn, listed as having served 5 years, 11 months and 15 days of a sentence of 1 to 14 years. Records show Klyn was paroled in 1947 to permit him to serve int he army, after which he was arrested on three charges of robbery. When first arrested in 1939 he was said to have confessed 50 robberies. Henry Allen and Lawrence Dawson, who served 20 years of life sentences, also were freed. Elwyn Barron, who served 20 years as an habitual criminal after a burglary conviction in 1933, was given a new parole after server court writs had failed to gain freedom for him."

Dean, 20, 816 Bristol ave., Westchester, crashed into the rear of a car driven by Charles W. Hertzel, 46, 2634 N. Harding st., Chicago, which in turn crashed into the rear of a car driven by Elwyn G. Barron, 3527 N. Leavitt, Chicago. Hertzel and Barron had stopped their autos at the 4-way stop. State Trooper Stephen Golden charged Dean for following too close in traffic. Damage to the Dean car was set at $250, to the Hertzel auto at $450, and to the Barron car at $75."
