Notes
a. Note:   RESEARCH STANDARD APPLIED
Researched by Timothy J. Barron, updated February 15, 2020
Bernard Heinrich Nienhaus and Johanna Gesina Effing are my paternal third great grandparents. Bernard and Johanna were initially identified in the book "Nienhaus Family History and Genealogy,” which was written by Jack Nienhaus and Janet Heindl, and was self published in 1998.
Based on the application of recognized genealogical standards of proof, the descent of Bernard Heinrich Nienhaus and Johanna Gesina Effing and family structure has been sufficiently established beyond any reasonable doubt. The basis for the descent of Bernard begins with the marriage record, which lists the names of both parents. The basis for the descent of Johanna begins with the marriage record, which lists the names of both parents. This is followed by her baptism record, which also lists the names of both parents. The basis for family structure begins with the census records. This has been subsequently supported with the additional interlocking records and documentation listed further below.
Johanna was commonly known as Regina. Bernard’s forename name is found in a variety of spellings including Bernard and Barney, and his surname is found as Nienhaus, Newhouse, Neuhaus, Ninnhouse, etc. Bernard’s death record and headstone list Neuhaus, while Johanna’s headstone lists Nienhaus.
1812 BIRTH OF BERNARD HEINRICH NIENHAUS
Researched by Timothy J. Barron, updated February 15, 2020
Bernard Heinrich Nienhaus was born on Thursday, January 2, 1812, in what would be present day Gescher, Borken, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. At the time of his birth, Gesher was part of the Kingdom of Prussia.
The book "Nienhaus Family History and Genealogy,” was written by Jack Nienhaus and Janet Heindl, and was self published in 1998. It indicates that Bernard’s date of birth is based on a church record from St. Pankratius Catholic Church in Gesher. It should noted that his headstone lists his date of birth as May 5, 1827, which is believed to be in error. The book indicates that he was born in the bauerschaft (English: farm area) of Estern, which is immediately north of Gesher.
