Note: RESEARCH STANDARD APPLIED Researched by Timothy J. Barron, updated March 19, 2021 George W. Jones and Elizabeth J. McClanathan are my paternal third great grandparents. George and Elizabeth were initially identified via the death record of son their George. Based on the application of recognized genealogical standards of proof, the descent of George W. Jones and Elizabeth J. McClanathan and family structure has been sufficiently established beyond any reasonable doubt. The basis for the descent of George begins with his death record, which lists the forenames of both parents. The basis for the descent of Elizabeth begins with the census record, which shows George and her living with her parents. This is followed by her death record, which lists the name of her father. The basis for the family structure begins with the census records. This has been subsequently supported with the additional interlocking records and documentation listed further below. Elizabeth commonly went by the nickname of Betsy. According to the 1900 and 1910 census, Elizabeth had a total of eleven children, which means there are three unidentified children. Based on the sequence of the census records, it is probable that these children all died very young. The birth location of George is undetermined, and the records below provide conflicting locations of Massachusetts, New York, and Canada. It should be noted there are multiple named George Jones and George W. Jones living in Niagara County at the same time. 1831 BIRTH OF GEORGE W. JONES Researched by Timothy J. Barron, updated March 19, 2021 George W. Jones was born in January 1832.
