Note: RESEARCH STANDARD APPLIED Researched by Timothy J. Barron, updated May 2, 2021 Emil Andrew Johnson and Rose Caroline Nienhaus are my paternal great grandparents. Emil and Rose were initially identified by my grandmother, Lorraine Barron (née Johnson), who was their daughter. Rose is listed as Rosa on her birth record and first two census records, and all subsequent records list her as Rose. Based on the application of recognized genealogical standards of proof, the descent of Emil Johnson, the descent of Rose Nienhaus, and their family structure have been sufficiently established beyond any reasonable doubt. The basis for the descent of Emil begins with his death record, which lists the names of both parents, and interlocks with Emil being listed as the informant on the death records of both parents. This is followed by the census record, which shows him living with his parents. The basis for the descent of Rose begins her birth record and social security record, which list the names of both parents. This is followed by the census records, which show here living with her parents. The basis for family structure begins with first hand information from their daughter Lorraine, as well as the census record. This has been subsequently supported with the additional interlocking records and documentation listed further below. Based on the application of recognized standards for DNA evidence, the family structure of Emily Andrew Johnson and Rose Caroline Nienhaus has been corroborated with DNA matches between descendants of their children, which are listed further below. 1886 BIRTH OF EMIL ANDREW JOHNSON Researched by Timothy J. Barron, updated May 2, 2021 The following is a transcription of an unsigned letter written in 1938 to William J. Nienhaus from one of his sisters, which is believed to be Rose. It was provided via the research of Jack Nienhaus and Janet Heindl. “Dear Billie - Could you be childish already or just a little off with this family tree. All I know of the Grandparents Duffrin - John Duffrin came over with his family. I think it was the first 2 girls our mother and Margaret in 1852, they settled 1 1/2 north and east from St. Lawrence, they has 12 children one died very young, grandpa died Feb. 24 1885 - he was maybe 8 or 10 years older than grandma - Grandma Mary Anna Pheiffer Duffrin was born Sep. 24, 1826 and she died Dec. 27, 1901. I don't know when they were married nor where Grandma married John Schlagenhaft in 1887 or 1888. Grandma had 2 sisters, Mrs. Rodinger of Slinger and Mrs. Winterhalter - Lochinger lived near Addison. Grandpa had only one brother here Carl Duffrin's father he owned that farm across from Ray Hefters. There are 2 uncles living, Joe and Carl Duffrin. Write to Joe he may give you more information. Chas used to write to him his address is Stevenson, Mich. The both live on farms and have large familys. The both married Schlagenhaft girls from St. Anthony, cousins to Schweitzers.” “Grandmas buried at St. Anthonys and grandpa Duffrin is buried at St Lawrence, he as a monument. You were informed wrong about Gradmas Neinhaus' age and I know very well when she died it was in March or April of 1901 just before I got married and she was 86 years old that figures up better. Cousin Rosie Nienhaus (Bernards daughter) worked in Marinette the same time and she had word then that Grandma died, she and I counted up our cousins at that time on both sides, her father married our mothers sister Margaret, so we were double cousins, there were 76 then and more coming in 3 familys, may have gone to 85 I stopped counting, but in your spare time you can hunt them up. The tree will break down when you get to this next generation. The Nienhaus that lives here at New Munster must be a son of Bernards, I never visited him, but see the name on the mailbox. I don't know of anybody around Allenton that could be of any help to you. Mrs. Will Duffrin is the only one living of that generation - she was a Stecher's daughter, she is 88 years old, I met her last summer, they live on the 5 corners 1 or 2 miles north of Nenno. A son runs her farm, they use to live in Addison she remembers you.” 1938 LETTER MENTIONING EMIL ANDREW JOHNSON Researched by Timothy J.
