Notes
a. Note:   RESEARCH STANDARD APPLIED
Researched by Timothy J. Barron, updated June 12, 2021
George Bancroft Butterfield and Annie Gertrude Papineau are my maternal second great grandparents. George and Annie were initially identified in the book “Genealogy of Hollon and Related Families: Early Settlers of Eastern Kentucky and their Descendants,” which was written by Clay Hollon, and was published in 1958. Clay was their son in law.
Based on the application of recognized genealogical standards of proof, the descent of George Bancroft Butterfield, the descent of Annie Gertrude Papineau, and their family structure has been sufficiently established beyond any reasonable doubt. The basis for the descent of George begins with his marriage record, which lists the name of his father. This is followed his baptism record, which lists the names of both parents. The basis for the descent of Annie begins her marriage record, which lists the name of her father. This is followed by her baptism record, which lists the names of both parents. The basis for the family structure begins with the census records. This has been subsequently supported with the additional interlocking records and documentation listed further below.
1853 BIRTH OF ANNIE GERTRUDE PAPINEAU
Researched by Timothy J. Barron, updated June 12, 2021
Annie Gertrude Papineau was born on Sunday, March 13, 1853 in what would be present day Stratford, London, England. Stratford is district in the East End of London, and is part of the present day London Borough of Newham. At the time of her birth, Stratford was part of the London Borough of West Ham, and was in the county of Essex. The specific date of birth date was determined from the baptism record. It should be noted that her death record lists an erroneous birth date of March 16, 1853, and Clay Hollon’s book matches the birth date of March 13, 1853 listed on the baptism record.
The "England & Wales, Civil Registration Birth Index, 1837-1915" is a historical record collection from the Ancestry website, and contains the following indexed listing: "Name: Annie Gertrude Papineau; Registration Year: 1853; Registration Quarter: Apr-May-Jun; Registration district: West Ham; Inferred County: Essex; Volume: 4a; Page: 3."
