Notes
a. Note:   RESEARCH STANDARD APPLIED
Researched by Timothy J. Barron, updated April 23, 2021
George Joseph Jones is my paternal second great uncle, which is via common ancestry with George F. Jones and Margaret Long. George was initially identified by Jean Lebal.

The basis for the descent of George begins with the census records, which show him living with his parents. George did not have any children by either wife.   1901 MARRIAGE OF GEORGE JOSEPH JONES AND CHRISTINA KRESS
Researched by Timothy J. Barron, updated April 23, 2021
George Joseph Jones and Christina Kress were married Sunday, February 3, 1901 in Niagara Falls, Niagara County, New York, USA. At the time of their marriage, George was 22 years old, and Christina was 24 years old.
The “New York State, Marriage Index, 1881-1967” is a historical record collection from the Ancestry website, and contains the following indexed listing: “Name: George Jones; Marriage Date: 3 Feb 1901; Marriage Place: Niagara Falls, New York, USA; Certificate Number: 2110; Name: George Jones, Christina C. Krese."
The 1910 census shows that George and Christina had separated, and shows Christina living with two of her sisters. Some cursory research confirms that Kress was the maiden names of both sisters. The date of the above marriage is confirmed by the 1911 newspaper article concerning their divorce. There is a conflict with the above 1900 census record, which indicates they were married for two years, which implies a circa 1898 marriage. The reasons for this conflicting information have not yet been determined, and there are a variety of possible explanations.

According to testimony taken in a divorce action, in Special Term of Supreme court, before Justice Brown, a candy maker by the name of George Jones, celebrated the tenth anniversary of his marriage to his wife, Christina Jones, by starting out for a bowling alley in Washington Street, accompanied by his brother and friends. Before they reached the bowling alley the three men claimed they saw Mrs. Jones on the opposite side of the street. At this time husband and wife had been separate about 18 months."

The bowling game was given up and the trio on the spur of the moment constituted themselves sleuths, Mrs. Jones and her companion were followed to a hotel on the corner of Eagle and Washington streets. According to the testimony of the husband and his brother, Morris Jones of No. 81 Demond Place, and Charles Klix of No. 108 Goodell Street, who made up the detachment of self-appointed detectives, the found that Mrs. Jones and ‘the other man,’ registered at the hotel as ‘Mr. Hastings and wife.’”
"The court was told that the Joneses married on February 3, 1901, and that on the same day, ten years later, February 3, 1911, instead of having friends come to their home to celebrate their 'tin' wedding anniversary, Mrs. Jones was found to be guilty of infidelity. The trio swore they had to break into the room to get the evidence. No appearance was made by the wife. Justice Brown decided that a decree of interlocutory divorce be grated to the candy maker."

The following appeared in the Buffalo Enquirer newspaper from Buffalo, Erie County, New York, USA on Tuesday, June 17, 1924: "Thieves Miss $500 Concealed in Shoes. Police are mystified at the tactics used by burglars who entered the apartments of George Jones, No. 81 Demond street, late last night while Jones and his wife were away from home. The burglars forced two rear doors, and thoroughly ransacked the place, breaking mirrors, overturning furniture, and throwing a cake on the floor and stamping upon it. They also ripped a crucifix from the hall and destroyed it. The intruders fled with a quantity of clothing, but overlooked a pair of shoes containing $500, according to the police. Police are of the opinion that the burglary was the work of vandals, or someone holding ill feeling against Mr. Jones. They are investigating."
The following appeared in the Buffalo Morning Express newspaper from Buffalo, Erie County, New York, USA on Tuesday, July 22, 1924: “Boys' burglaries too numerous to recall. Capture of youth clears up many crimes of the last three weeks. Stolen goods are recovered in their rooms. Twenty house and store burglaries of the last three weeks have been solved, according to the police, in the arrest last night of two men. The prisoners are Howard T. Rutter, nineteen years old, of No. 66 Ellicott street and Howard P. Keeley, seventeen years old, of No. 310 Fox street. Both lads, in written confessions made last night at police headquarters, admitted entering fifteen homes and stores on the east side and several more on the west side. They named a companion in the burglaries a third youth, not yet caught. Rutter said he is the leader of the gang and says he selected the places to be robbed. Keeley says he came here from New York with his parents, who are actors, about the first of the month. Several hundred dollars' worth of stolen property were recovered in a room which the boys rented in the Holldenden apartments at Franklin and Chippewa streets. Detective sergeants Quigley, Flynn, Downey and Kenney arrested the two lads after they had trailed them from a pawnshop in Genesee street where they had pawned a stolen watch. Among the places the prisoners admitted robbing are the homes of Stephen Clergy at No. 869 Michigan avenue; George Jones at No. 81 Demond place; Panimo's pawnshop, East Genesee street; a rooming house at No. 163 Genesee street; at fruit store at Elm street and Broadway, and several east side rooming houses. The prisoners noted a list of fifteen places they had robbed and said several places on the west side were also robbed, but they could not recall the addresses."

More than a score of recent burglaries were cleared up last night when Detective Sergts. Quigley, Flynn, Downey and Kerney arrested two youths who, according to police, made signed confessions that they were responsible for at least fifteen east side burglaries and several more on the west side. The youths identified themselves as Howard T. Rutter, nineteen years old, No. 68 Ellicott street and Howard P. Keeley, seventeen years old, No. 310 Fox street. A third youth, whose name as not revealed, is being sought. Rutter admitted being the ringleader, according to police. Several hundred dollars worth of stolen property was recovered in a room which the youths had rented in the Hollenden apartments, Franklin and Chippewa streets. Among the homes the youths admitted entering are Stephen Clergy, No. 889 Michigan avenue; George Jones, No. 81 Demond place; Panimo's Pawn Shop, No. 169 East Genesee street; Watkin's Rooming house, at Oak and Sycamore streets, and several other east side flats.
