Note: RESEARCH STANDARD APPLIED Researched by Timothy J. Barron, updated June 13, 2021 Isaac Richmond Hollon is my maternal second great uncle, which is via common ancestry with James Buchanan Hollon and Isabellah Caroline Elkins. Isaac was initially identified in the book "Genealogy of Hollon and Related Families: Early Settlers of Eastern Kentucky and their Descendants,” which was written by Clay Hollon, and was published in 1958. Based on the application of recognized genealogical standards of proof, the descent of Isaac Richmond Hollon is sufficiently established beyond any reasonable doubt. The basis for the descent of Isaac begins with the census records, which shows him living with his parents. This is followed his death record, which lists the full names of both parents. The descent of Isaac is also demonstrated horizontally by his obituary, which names his surviving siblings and half siblings. This has been subsequently supported with the additional interlocking records and documentation listed further below. 1877 BIRTH OF ISAAC RICHMOND HOLLON Researched by Timothy J. Barron, updated June 13, 2021 The following appeared in the Hazel Green Herald newspaper from Hazel Green, Wolfe County, Kentucky, USA on Thursday, April 5, 1894: "The hight school at this place, or rather the literary society run in connection with the school, gave an entertainment at the court house Friday night. The court house was packed to its utmost capacity, and a very interesting program was carried out. It consisted of recitations, declamations, a debate and last and best of all, Madam Jarey's wax works. The declamations were of a high order and well rendered. The readings, also, were very interesting, especially that of the 'Wonderful One Horse Chaise,' by Miss Heydenburk, principal of the school. The subject for the debate was, "Resolved, That Kentucky should have a compulsory system of educational law enforced at least five months in each year.' Affirmed by Ben Sewell and Granville Rose, and denied by J. C. Fulks and Richmond Hollon. The speeches on either side were rare specimens of eloquence and logic for school boys. Miss VanBuren, assistant teacher, played the role of that unique personage, Madam Jarley. She had some ten or twelve characters, all of them 'out of sight.' Madam Jarley, always good, was perfection itself on this occasion. The entertainment was a grand success. The efforts that the present management of the school are putting forth the make it a success and insure a college building in the near future, is every day being more fully realized and appreciated by those who know a good thing when they see it." 1895 NEWSPAPER MENTIONS OF ISAAC RICHMOND HOLLON Researched by Timothy J. R. Hollon, who aspires to the office of Circuit Court Clerk. Space in this issue is too limited to exploit the many excellent qualifications of our young friend for the clerkship he covets, but suffice it that he has learned the duties pertaining to the position under a master hand, having done duty as deputy under J. F. Vansant, the present incumbent, than whom there is not in Kentucky a more efficient official. It is therefore enough to say that he is excellently equipped, and as to politics he is a simon-pure, dyed in the wool Democrat, who loves nothing better than to help his party on to victory by his vote. Confident of fair treatment by his constituency we now present our client for their consideration." Williamstown, Ky., Mch. 2 1917. Hazel Green Herald, Hazel Green, Ky. Dear Sir: I herewith send greetings to all the Herald family, and for the sake of any who care to know will give a short account of myself. In February 1909, in the dear old Methodist church in Campton, I was converted by the Power of God from a life of sin in to a life of righteousness and called to preach the Gospel that so wonderfully saved me. In June following I was licensed to preach at Morehead, Ky. And recommended to the Kentucky Annual Conference for admission on trial. Was admitted on trial at Paris, Ky. in Sept. 1909 and appointed to the Pastorate of the Hindman charge which I served two years. From there I was transferred to Washington, Ky. Where I remained four years. From there I was sent to Hazard and spent one year there, from whence I was appointed to my present chart at Williamstown, a splendid little city midway between Lexington and Cincinnati, on the Q and C R. R. I am now will in my eighth year in the ministry and during that time I have seen many souls, both young and old, rejoice in the deliverance from sin through the power of the Gospel of Christ. During all my travels I have not forgotten the friends and acquaintances of my native heath. To me they are the best people on the globe, and in all my wanderings I have never found a people that excelled them, and I have never been ashamed or afraid to won them and defend them from unwarranted and unjust criticism. I have two children, girls, six and twelve years of age that can be beat anywhere. We greatly enjoy the Herald the best paper (because of its editor) in the mountains. With best wishes for all the Herald family and hoping that we shall all meet some of these days on the 'banks of deliverance' with all those we have loved and lost a while. I am, Sincerely, I. R. Hollon." 1918 DRAFT REGISTRATION OF ISAAC RICHMOND HOLLON Researched by Timothy J.
